In a world where magic exists, Opal is known as the Glass magician. She has assisted with trapping the souls of evil magicians inside her glass spheres, she has invented a means for magicians to communicate with each other from long distances via her glass creations, and she can take a person's magic from them and infuse it into glass. The latter power is her newest and the one that could get her into the most trouble. She is afraid the Sitian Council will see her as a threat. She has been ordered back to the Citadel, but she is not ready to go back just yet. She is on a mission to find Ulrich and get Devlen to switch their two souls back into the proper bodies. In Storm Glass the two had swapped bodies and Opal does not believe Ulrich would do so willingly. The side trip may cost her more than she imagines when the Sitian Councils sees it as a form of disrespect.

This is another great story by Maria V. Snyder. The problems Opal encounters and how she deals with them shows how she grown as a person. While she seems to loose the innocent outlook on life she once held, she comes in to her own and proves herself by saving the day with a little help from Janco. When everyone doubts what she knows to be true some would give up, but not Opal. She sets out to uncover the mystery of it all and in the process discovers a plot that if not stopped could change everything. Very fun read. I give this one 4 out 5 roses.
