"Now, what I want is for all of you who know why you're here, to move to the far left. All of you who don't move to the far right."

Kylie Galen thought she knew why she'd been sent to Shadow Falls--because she got caught at a party where drugs were found.
She thought it was a camp for troubled teens.
She thought wrong.

"You guys are here because you are special. Gifted."
..."Define special."
"We've all read about the supernaturals, things of legends, and from childhood we're taught they don't exist. The truth is that they do exist. Not everyone in the world is alike. And some of us are a lot more different than others. Some of us were born like this, some of us were changed. But no matter how this happened to you, if you are here it is because this is your destiny."

This was such a fun book. Kylie Galen was having one of the worst years of her life. Her parents were getting divorced, she'd just broken up with her boyfriend Trey, her grandmother whom she'd been close to had died, she had a stalker no one else could see, and now she was being sent away from her best friend to go to a summer camp filled with juvenile delinquents. She'd be lucky to survive the summer unscathed.

When Kylie arrives at the camp, however, she finds things aren't always what they seem and that saying could not be more true than for Camp Shadow Falls. She finds the world is a much more diverse place than she'd ever imagined. She's introduced to a whole new world full of creatures of legend and lore as she finds her fellow campers to be beings she thought didn't exist. However, the main question on everyone's mind is what is Kylie?

Before going to camp Kylie thought she was a typical teen. For the most part she'd been dealing with typical teen issues like her boyfriend pressuring her to have sex and who ultimately broke up with her for not having it. She had a best friend she could tell anything but was slowly starting to be  pulled away as their interests began to vary. A family who loved her, but was in the midst of an upheaval as her parents were going through a bitter divorce. Yeah, she didn't have the perfect life, but it wasn't bad. The only things that she would have labeled as out of the ordinary were the stalker no one else could see and the night terrors that she'd had as a child and still occasionally got.

As the story unfolds, Kylie is slowly introduced to the world of the supernatural. Her roommates are a witch and a vampire whom she'll become friends with. She'll gain the interest of two guys--one half Fae and the other a werewolf. Plus, she'll learn a little something about herself and her past that will surprise her. Slowly, she'll begin to feel at home in the camp that at one time seemed so odd and foreign to her. But the main thing she'll realize is that she isn't an average teen--she's something more.

Why is the book called Born at Midnight? Well, it's due to the fact that everyone at the camp has one thing in common. "Everyone here was born at midnight."

Overall, I gave this one 4 out of 5 roses. I enjoyed the world Ms. Hunter created. I love the idea that amongst all the other trials and tribulations a teen goes through, the addition of a secret paranormal world is thrown in.
