"Either a week's paid vacation or suspension without pay. Which is it going to be?"

Caren Blakemore was given an ultimatum by her boss. She'd accidentally put a letter in the wrong mail pouch and it went to the wrong person. Normally this would not be a big deal, but when you work for the US government little mistakes can sometimes have huge consequences. Luckily, this wasn't one of those instances. Caren's life had changed dramatically in the last year after her husband left her for another woman. Even though she wouldn't admit it, her boss was right. She needed a break to get her act together. With some encouragement from her sister, she decided to spend that week in Jaimaca and perhaps have a fling.

Derek Allen was a bona fide playboy. His father was coming to town and in an attempt to avoid him, he booked a trip to Jaimaca. He just wanted to get away from it all.

Neither one could have possibly imagined that by the end of the week they would be involved in an international scandal.

I won this book from the Goodreads first reads program. Let me just say I am so happy I won. About a year ago my husband sent me a link to a podcast interview with Ms. Brown. Ever since listening to the interview  I've been wanting to read one of her books. She thoroughly impressed me. Let me just say after reading this book I am once again impressed by Ms. Brown. I absolutely loved it. She first wrote the book under the pseudonym Erin St. Claire in 1985, but it was published again in 1999. The characters, Derek and Caren, are a great pair. I like how Caren's cautious and Derek's not. A man used to getting the women he wants, Derek has to work a little harder than normal to win her confidence. I liked how Ms. Brown slowly showed us Derek's alpha male side. Oh, and I should probably mention that Derek is not who he first portrays himself to be. That is part of the fun on this book. If the rest of her books are as good as this one I'm going to need to make some time in my busy schedule to read them. I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses. Thank you Ms. Brown for putting this book up for a giveaway on Goodreads, and thank you for sending me an additional book, Texas! Lucky, and bookmarks. You are too kind. I am now an official fan. :) Can you guess which book I'll be reading next? I'll give you a hint - it's initials are T & L. I should also mention the book is sadly out of print, but you can still find reasonably priced used copies out there. I was hoping eBooks would somehow remedy the need for books to go out of print. Perhaps in the future? It is almost a crime to think that wonderful stories like this one may never again be read.

P.S. This is not the podcast I originally listened to, but it's close enough. So if you've got some time and are interested, this podcast discusses Tough Customer with Sandra Brown. The book came out in 2010 in Hardback and on June 21st in paperback.  Here is the link:
