Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter, #4) by Nalini Singh

"Those who say vengeance eats you up are wrong--it doesn't, not if you do it right."

Around the time of the battle between Uram and Raphael, Honor was kidnapped by vampires. Battered, beaten, and broken she survived, but just barely. Haunted by the experience she's kept to herself preferring to hide from the world while attempting to heal. Once a confident, outgoing Guild Hunter she's been reduced to just a shadow of her former self. Now the Guild needs to utilize her language talents to help solve a series of murders. In order to do so, she'll have to face her fears because to solve this mystery she'll have to work with Dmitri, one of New York's most powerful and feared vampires. Dmitri is the leader of Raphael’s Seven. Raphael is the Archangel of New York and Dmitri is his enforcer, the Archangel's Blade, if you will.

The previous two books have focused on Raphael's and Elena's relationship. This book focuses on the mysterious character Dmitri. You could probably read this one without having read the previous books in the series, but I highly recommend reading the others first. In this book, we find out how he became a vampire and let me just say it wasn't by choice. We'll see what events made Dmitri into the man/vamp he is today. We'll discover what hardened him to the world all those years ago. This is Dmitri's story and it's a doozie. Be prepared for your emotions to run amok and keep a box of Kleenex handy. If you've never really cared for Dmitri, be prepared to have a change of heart.

Still on the fence about reading this book? Well how's this for a little teaser:
     “Honor?”
     “Yes.”
“I’m going to do things to you now that a good girl definitely shouldn’t let a man do to her.”

- And let's not forget this:
“Ever had a woman say no to you, Dmitri?”
“Once.” He turned the corner with a smile that made her want to cup his face, trace those beautiful lips with her own. “I married her.”
- And I'd be remiss if I didn't include one of my favorite lines:
I will love you even when I am dust on the wind.”  *sigh*

Once I realized this book wasn't about Raphael and Eleana I admit to being disappointed. Thankfully, I enjoyed this story as much as the others in the series. This one get a big 5 out 5 roses and a big sigh from me. The chemistry between Dmitri and Honor is hot and heavy. The heat between the two seemed to leap right off the pages. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a SHOWER rating - a cold shower is necessary (need I say more?). Some books should come with a warning - make sure your significant other is handy or your shower is in working order. lol Oh, and have I ever mentioned my hubby is a big fan a Nalini Singh's yet curiously has never picked up one of her books? *smirk*
